Dude, the concessions do suck at that place. Not just the staff's inability to get things ready on-time or to provide even passable service, but the food offerings are pretty putrid.

Going from body language and reactions, it was Guzman's responsibility to cover 2nd. Usually, I would have added input from the radio crew but my radio battery was blinking "almost dead" when I turned it on. Maybe I will FF to that play on the TiVo'd game and see what Bob and Don said.

I don't mind the GiDP. I do mind that he did not run it out. He is a speedy guy. We were showing some offense. He should always run hard on that play.

whoa, does this mean i'm right again? hahaha.

i can't believe i'm doing this, but...
- are you sure he was supposed to be the one covering second on the "steal turned hit and run"? sounds like it was just a "hit and run" and was well executed. if the hitter was a lefty or a righty with pull tendencies (and also depends on the pitcher and the pitch selection), the 2B could have been responsible for covering second.
- it's hard not to hate on people for the GIDP, but really, it's a part of the game and it happens. watch the a's for a while and you'll start to see them as routine, almost expected, especially when they'd be the worst possible outcome (which i guess, by nature, is almost always the case).

the other things you mention are truly terrible and show his head was not in the game. hopefully the GMs in the league don't get a similar report, because his offense has been making him almost decent trade bait.

I love it when I'm right. :) The first time I saw Sheff live was at the All-Star game in Atlanta. TV just does not do justice to his swing, it truly is amazing to see live. I felt a similar feeling when I saw Andy Laroche get his first MLB hit against the Braves earlier this year... very quick bat (ok, it's not Sheffield quick, but it's still damn quick).

Awesome story about Polanco. I wonder if he just went brain dead and didn't know the signs or had trouble actually seeing the coach. Isn't Polanco noted as being a particularly smart player?

Chris,

I don't know if you're still looking at these comments, but I have a suggestion I've been meaning to make. I couldn't find an email address on your website. If I could spend the time downloading mpost, I'd try to figure it out myself, but you can probably whip it out quickly. Would it be possible to move the diamond and the abbreviations down to the bottom of the box, and move the balls/strikes to the top with the balls first and the strikes under? That way they're in the order called/shown on the screen. Despite knowing which are which, when I hear the count, I tend to accidentally fill in the wrong set of boxes.

Thanks!!!

Jol, no hot Asian guys for me! And I'm a sucker and bought the ScorePAD software. Sigh. It's convenient to use during day games when I'm at work.

wow. drunk baseball fans falling on each other. good times. actually sounds like it was really not fun to witness.

you have to find the half-smoke stand. not only because it's the local choice, but also in case i find a way to get up there for a game before the season ends. mmmm, half-smoke.

awesome the jets fly-by was so great. i've seen a few braves games with jets flying overhead and it definitely depends on where you are in relation to the jets path. if they are flying at you, it's awesome. if they come from behind you or even from your side, it's not quite as cool. it's all about the anticipation and seeing them coming before you fully hear the jets roaring.

was this the "it's 'escobar', not 'gibson'" game, or was this the game where he injured the hamstring?

By "draft your own talent", I mean with the compensation picks after he bolts in FA. Will he be a Type A? I don't quite understand those classifications.

Such an interesting trade. The players acquired make it seem like the plan is to compete sooner than most were imagining ('07/'08 instead of '09+). Maybe the owners will loosen the purse strings earlier than expected?

Guillen should be packed already. Packing at the last minute is no fun, even when you can afford to pay somebody else to do it. Seriously, though, what kind of returns do you think Guillen would get? Pitching is expensive, so I think he'd be worth a B/B+ prospect, but not one proven above AA, if even that high. If you don't trade him, you pay 1/2 of his salary but get a chance to draft your own talent. I'd trade him (unless Soriano nets a really high return).

Soriano is interesting, as he's become the face of the team and it would go a long way in the fans minds to see him locked up for a few years. Who knows what'll happen there. Of course, he's easily the most valuable guy on the trading block, so it would be hard to not listen to options. Since pitching is expensive, trading him for Hughes (and more?) and signing Guillen might be a better option. Though not a popular one, especially given Guillen's attitude.

Ah, trade speculation. Good times.

I must also recant calling Bowden "Blowden", at least for a day. This was a great move.
